Duration: 25/9/2024 - 7/1/2025 (15 weeks)
Project: Collaborative work

Overview
During my fifth semester at university, I had the
opportunity to work with a real client for my university
module, 'Minor Project'. This was collaborative group
work, meaning I also had the chance to collaborate with
students from other specialisations (animation, graphic
design, entertainment design). The topic of our work was
to create a brand for our client's product, 'The
X-board: A collaborative mobile whiteboard', as well as
create a marketing plan for them.
The goal of this project is to provide us with some
experience of interacting with clients.
My roles in this group project included:
- Project leader/manager
- Market Research
- User Research
- Website Designer
- Social Media Post Designer

The Process
This project followed some parts of the Design Thinking
process. Due to time constraints, we did not have time
to test out any of our work. The process is as shown
below.

This stage was split into 2 parts:
- Market Research
- User Research
Market Research
To better understand the current mobile whiteboard market, we
performed some market research to identify who our competitors were.
Competitor analysis was done by my group members while I focused more
on analysing what whiteboards were used in the office
nowadays.

Following the market research, we had a short interview
session with our client to identify what it was they
really wanted for the outcome.
User Research
Following that, we carried out some surveys and interviews to
identify users needs and challenges. The target audience for our
surveys and interviews were:
- People who worked in an agile workspace
- People who worked in a creative team
- Corporate decision-makers
- People who work in educational institutions

Following that, our group moved on to generating the:
- User Personas
- User Journey Map
- How Might We statements
- The problem Statement
These help us identify the user needs and challenges and provide
us with a guide on what the solutions should be.
Additionally, from the research, our insight statements were:
- Many respondents face challenges with collaboration and whiteboard use, highlighting an opportunity to showcase how the X-board can effectively address these issues.
- Users prioritize accessibility and express a strong preference for trying the X-board before purchase, especially given its high price, emphasizing the need to make accessibility a key theme.
- Price is a crucial factor for respondents considering the X-board, with many feeling it exceeds their expectations, underscoring an opportunity to emphasize its extensive features, potential add-ons, and value-boosting deals to justify the cost.
And our main 3 themes were:
- Affordability
- Assecibility
- Value for money
This stage allowed us to generate ideas based on the How Might We
Statements and user journey map. We tried to base the solutions around our
3 key themes.
Additionally, we also came up with an advertising and promotion(A&P)
plan. Honestly, having never done this before, I kept doubting if we were
doing the right thing, but in the end we pulled through.
After identifying the solutions and splitting the team up to work on the
designs, I started working on the website design with another team member.
We had a design guideline/system that was set to ensure that our designs
were consistent.

Things I have done for the website design:
- The website flowchart
- Wireframe
- Design
- Making the components for the prototype
Figure 1.11 Website flowchart
The website had a total of 6 pages:
- Homepage
- Shop page
- FAQ Page
- Blog page
- Contact us page
- Showroom page
I had a lot of back and forth with the other website designer,
Jordan. In the end, our final web design was given the feedback '...
the other team's ones look so professional but yours is like so
...different'. Honestly, I wanted the website to look professional
but it seems that I am unable to execute that properly.
So anyway, for the website, we just had a bit of back and forth
before settling on something.

Reflection
This project provided me with an opportunity to work with others
of different specialisations as well as work with a client. It
gave me very valuable firsthand experience on how to manage a
group who have different specialties as well as taught me how to
converse with a client.
In the future, if ever given the chance to collaborate in a team
with different talents, I would work harder on making sure my
designs are consistent with the rest of the groups. A big issue I
noticed in this project is that it is extremely hard to ensure
consistency in design with so many people working on it.
